Full Time Instructional Designer, Year Round

The Instructional Designer (ID) position is responsible for supporting faculty in the instructional design of online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses and providing expertise and guidance in the use of a variety of online education instructional technology applications. Works in conjunction with and reports
to the Director of E-learning to meet the learning needs of students through ensuring effective presentation and interactivity of content and the accessibility and usability of web-based resources.

Other responsibilities include:

  • working with faculty to design, build and evaluate SMCC online courses
  • working with the Director of E-learning to manage online course scheduling and project management

timelines for course delivery

  • working with faculty, with publishers and on their own initiative to create online content that apply

instructional design theories

  • working with faculty to prepare courses within the LMS for each term which includes, quality reviews,

updating content, linking publisher systems, gradebook setup, and other course management tasks in
the LMS. (Brightspace)

  • working with the Director of E-learning and the Director of Disability Services to ensure courses meet

ADA requirements. The ID will also work with faculty to convert course material into ADA accessible

  • reviewing online courses to ensure that they meet college course quality expectations.
  • supporting faculty in the use of the course management tools and provide some technical support to

faculty in regards to the college LMS (Brightspace) in conjunction with the Director of E-learning

  • conducting 1-1 and small group trainings along with the Director of E-learning
  • providing basic technical support to online faculty for the Brightspace LMS, Panopto video server, and

other online learning technologies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree with experience in online course development and design.
Familiarity with instructional design theory and demonstrated abilities with current web development tools and
methodologies. Experience with a CMS/LMS. Two to four years of college level teaching and/or experience
supporting faculty, trainers, or curriculum developers. Excellent communication and customer service skills with
the ability to troubleshoot problems and meet strict deadlines.

Pay: $39,589.00 - $51,655.00 per year
