There is an opening for a postdoctoral researcher in the area of controls and robotics for additive manufacturing systems. The postdoc would work with Professor Kira Barton in the Mechanical Engineering Department and the Robotics Institute at the University of Michigan. The research will bring together concepts from material characterization, data analytics, modeling and control to improve the overall performance of a custom built additive manufacturing system along the dimensions of printing quality, printing resolution, printing automation and repeatability. The postdoc will work with a custom, high-resolution, jet-based 3D printing system at the University of Michigan that includes integrated sensing and control automation software/hardware. Multiple graduate and undergraduate students work in the group, and there is good collaboration with external academic research groups and industrial partners. Funding comes from DoD, NSF, and industry. Required Qualifications*
Required qualifications include: a recent PhD in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or a related field), experience in control systems (theory and/or application), experience with additive manufacturing (experimental implementation), and excellent oral and written communication skills. Desirable qualifications include: experience with material interactions, experience with jet-based 3D printing, experience with robotic automation systems, experience with control algorithms, and experience programming in C/C++/Java.Additional Information
