Scope of Role
The Executive Director of College Effectiveness and Grant Development reports directly to the College President. The role oversees grant development and management, institutional research, and information technology with a primary and essential focus to assure that there is alignment between these institutional effectiveness and data governance functions.
The executive director will facilitate and promote a culture of data-informed decision-making and lead a sustainable data governance culture across Lewis and Clark’s program and operation’s core.
This work involves providing the campus team with user-friendly data and information to help support data-driven decision making, strategic and operational planning, enrollment management, grant development, academic and program assessment, institutional accreditation, informational technology, and student success.
The executive director facilitates, oversees, and reports the impact of the college’s strategic plan’s measurable aspirations against agreed benchmarks and budget allocation.
The role serves as leading authority for data governance, grant development and management in order to assure that data is deliberately linked to decisions and that grant applications can clearly drive organizational progress and improvement initiatives, and most importantly that grants have, again, a deliberate link to the College’s strategic plan and mission.
This individual serves as a member of the executive team. The director will guide a culture of shared data governance, interpret data for the executive team and campus, and facilitate critical discussion essential to Lewis and Clark’s focus to assess overall institutional progress as guided by our strategic plan.
Key Measurable Expectations
The following KMEs are normal for this position and not exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required or assigned.
- Through a project and process management lens, the director will plan, guide and advise the President and fellow members of the executive team on use of data and analysis in both day-to-day operations and long-range strategic planning.
- Build a strategic planning, grant development and campus mover team dashboard to track and measure impact of strategic plan aspirations, grant outcomes, and mover team progress including outcomes on overall campus progress.
- In collaboration with campus leadership, research and qualify grant funding sources including federal, state, regional, local foundations, private and governmental agencies that align with the College’s strategic plan and mission.
- Develop and maintain an annual Institutional Effectiveness Report Card.
- Present institution al performance outcomes and make recommendations to the President, Board of Trustees, and the broader campus team regarding continuous improvement.
- Develop and maintain data collection, decision-making support and reporting systems with Information Technology (IT).
- Provide guidance and support to campus mover teams regarding progress tracking, process improvement, and resource allocation.
- Conduct risk assessments and enrollment and financial projection analyses to support budgeting and strategic planning.
- Respond to routine and ad hoc requests for data and information from the President, the executive team, faculty, and campus team.
- Provides data-informed recommendations regarding Lewis and Clark policy and planning decisions.
- Implement continuous improvement strategies to support college strategic planning.
- Lead with the President exploration of priorities that may determine the need for special studies and analyses to better inform planning and decisions for campus leadership.
- This individual will interpret data for the college team and think critically about questions essential to the Lewis and Clark’s mission as guided by our strategic plan.
- Oversee and serve as authority on the comprehensive grant-development and management process including grant administration policies, systems, and documentation to ensure clear and consistent compliance.
- Facilitate alignment between college effectiveness, grant development and college finance to create accurate, timely, efficient and transparent processes and reporting of grant and strategic aspiration outcomes.
- Master’s degree in policy, economics, business, education, sociology, statistics, or another quantitative field is preferred.
- Doctoral degree is preferred
- Relevant work experience in strategic planning, institutional research, program assessment, and/or data management and analytics.
- This person must have a record of collaborating across divisions and departments, as well as working with unstructured data to find the meaning behind observations.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to synthesize and present complex data in a clear, concise, and understandable manner are essential attributes for the role.
- Demonstrated ability to clearly organize, analyze, and communicate institutional data to campus teams and departments
- Strong interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to establish collaborative relationships;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality;
- Knowledge of, and experience with strategic planning and processes
- Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues as related to institutional research;
- Skill in supervising a department team.
