The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) has been tasked by the university with the critical time-sensitive mission of creating and implementing a Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement Strategic Plan. We seek to hire a postdoctoral associate (12-month appointment) to work with SGS Deans to complete and implement the plan, and address and optimize the experience of the diverse population of SGS graduate students. The postdoctoral associate will be responsible for aspects of collection and analysis of data (survey design and analysis; record review; focus groups; interviews) obtained from more than 100 graduate programs and about 4000 students, and creation of new projects and assessments related to diversity, inclusion and the student experience. The postdoctoral associate will also communicate and disseminate results and descriptions of new projects within Rutgers and outside Rutgers by means of web tools, internal conferences, professional conferences and manuscript submissions. The postdoctoral associate will develop, carry out and assess new activities directed to ensuring a highly positive and successful experience across a wide and diverse group of graduate students, including identifying areas that need to be addressed by SGS deans, faculty and mentors. The new postdoctoral associate will be someone with prior experience through research or and/or relevant professional or servce activities in promoting diversity and inclusion in graduate education, and in addressing the nature of the student experience. The new postdoctoral associate will also be responsible for ensuring communication and coordination across the many schools and service units at Rutgers who have responsibilities in graduate education. Diversity, inclusion and the student experience is a mission critical and time-sensitive project vital to the univeristy and to the unit that requires the participation of an individual who has the academic (scholarly) background and professional experience to build a more diverse body of graduate student and work to create the services and environment that will ensure student success.

• Research and/or professional experience related to graduate (preferably doctoral) education focusing on one or more of the following:
o recruiting and enrolling a diverse population of graduate student population;
o success and retention of a diverse pool of graduate students;
o curricula, teaching methods and mentoring practices that address the needs of a diverse population of students, including international students;
o professional development activities that address the needs of a diverse population of students, including international students; assessment and evaluation of programs and projects, including methods of assessing student progress.
• Ability to design, conduct, manage and analyze data from surveys and focus groups of graduate students.
• Quantitative skills in statistical methods, including use of software tools.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Computer skills (excel; word; PowerPoint)
• Ability to create, manage and work in teams

Equipment Utilized

Computer software knowledge in Microsoft Office, preferably Tableau experience

• Doctoral degree.

Responsibilities
• Work with Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (SADAA) and other SGS deans to design, carry out and assess new programs and projects directed to the goal of recruiting, enrolling and retaining a diverse group of graduate students and ensuring that all graduate students have a positive experience leading to positive post-graduation outcomes.
• Work with SADAA and other SGS Deans to complete and implement the SGS strategic plans for diversity and inclusion.
• Design, carry out and assess goal-directed programs and projects to improve and assess the experience of graduate students, including interacting with student groups, creating networking opportunities, and designing and carrying out activities to achieve a positive experience for all graduate students.
• Design, carry out, analyze and report results of surveys, focus groups and interviews assess the experience of graduate students and assess the value of activities, programs and projects related to recruiting, retention, and the student experience.
• Develop and carry out assessments of program curricula and requirements with respect to compatibility with learning goals and with respect to meeting the needs of a diverse population of students.
• Manage and monitor the content and use of assessment tools used by graduate programs to evaluate student performance.
• Work with the SADAA to carry out annual required assessments of graduate programs.
• Establish effective communication and coordination channels with other Rutgers units with missions related to graduate education, including schools, programs, departments, service units, students, and faculty.
• Work with SGS web managers to create and post content related to the above on the SGS website.
• Work with SGS deans to prepare materials to disseminate all activities within and outside Rutgers, including submissions to academic conferences and journals.
