Job Summary

The University of Texas at Tyler invites nominations and applications for a visionary leader to serve as the next Dean of the Soules College of Business. The university seeks individuals with significant experience successfully leading complex organizations in higher education. The Dean will be an integral part of UT Tyler’s senior leadership as the university continues to work towards building on the pillars emphasized in the university’s strategic plan: Student Success, Student Engagement, Research, and Community Engagement.

The largest of UT Tyler's six colleges and two schools, the Soules College of Business serves more than 1,400 undergraduate, 1,200 graduate, and 50 doctoral students across a range of academic programs. As of January 1, 2021, The University of Texas at Tyler and The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler were merged and given the approval to plan for a new medical school. This combining of talent, financial and physical resources of two outstanding institutions more comprehensively serve the educational, health, and economic needs of East Texas. Bringing these two institutions together is providing students, faculty, and researchers exceptional opportunities to learn, teach, conduct research and deliver health care in a fully integrated academic and medical setting.

Minimum Required Education/Experience

  • Terminal degree in one of the disciplines represented by the Soules College of Business.
  • Academic credentials to qualify for tenure and the rank of full professor.
  • Nationally recognized record of scholarly and/or creative achievement.
  • Evidence of excellence in academic administration at the level of the department chair or higher, including faculty development, academic assessment, and management of financial resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust through collaborative decision-making with internal and external constituencies, embracing shared governance, commitment to academic freedom, and impactful integration with industry.
  • Fundraising skill and experience collaborating with Advancement staff to acquire support from public and private sources.
  • The ability to lead within a higher education environment including supporting faculty, staff, and students in achieving their goals.
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing diversity within an organization.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
