The Associate Vice President (AVP) for Student Affairs reports directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs and is responsible for providing inclusive administrative and managerial leadership to departments assigned to his/her portfolio. As a member of the Division’s leadership team, the AVP advances the University’s learning mission by providing leadership for student affairs services, programs, and activities that foster student development and engagement for a diverse student body. The AVP works to assure departmental strategic initiatives, goals and objectives align with and contribute to division and university vision, mission, and goals. The AVP also represents the Division and the University at university and non-university events.
SUPERVISION OF DEPARTMENTS
Supervises assigned departments within the Division of Student Affairs which may include, but are not limited to: LBJ Student Center, Student Involvement, Campus Recreation. This involves overseeing talent development, goals and objectives, the development of budgets and management of resources, program assessment and evaluation, and policies and procedures.
Coordinates with the VPSA leadership team to ensure day-to-day operations of the Division of Student Affairs are consistent with the Vice President’s philosophy, guidance, priorities, and intent. Is empowered to make decisions in the absence of the Vice President after consultation, as appropriate, with other senior staff members.
Coordinates with the Division’s Associate Vice Presidents, Division directors, and Development Officers to develop campaign and development initiatives, assess and coordinate divisional advancement training, and ensure good stewardship of development accounts.
Represents the Division of Student Affairs on various university committees and at appropriate activities and functions, both on and off campus. Serves as a resource person for students, parents and other constituents in helping them solve problems and obtain information.
Coordinates special projects and other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Student Affairs
