The Department of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG), Augusta University (AU) invites nominations and applications for the Director of the Georgia Prevention Institute (GPI). The successful applicant may also be offered an Endowed chair position based on qualifications. GPI, currently holding >$13 million extramural funding, has over a thirty-year history of interdisciplinary research programs in areas including obesity, cardiovascular diseases, behavioral medicine, stress and mental health, cancer, diabetes, fitness, health disparities, nutrition, kidney diseases, lung diseases, and substance abuse in both children and adults. GPI Faculty follow several longitudinal population cohorts from childhood, adolescence to adulthood. AU-MCG is seeking an exceptional individual with an international reputation and national visibility by virtue of publications, sustained NIH and other federal, foundation and industry support, positions on editorial boards, NIH study sections and other leadership positions. The research expertise of qualified applicants may be within or complementary to the existent research expertise that includes molecular genetics, genetic epidemiology, exercise physiology, health psychology, nutrition supplementation, aging, omics, cardiology, clinical trials, and community-based participatory research.

The successful applicant for this position will provide leadership toward the achievement of the highest possible level of excellence in research, education, and service of the GPI. This individual will be expected to maintain their own research as well as lead the division, its faculty, and staff. Major responsibilities include 1) Divisional strategic planning; 2) Foster the growth of current faculty and establish needs for the next decade. 3) Enhance team science; 4) Manage GPI budgets; 5) Promote integration within the Department of Medicine, across MCG/AU, and throughout the region as well as national collaborations. This is an outstanding opportunity for a leader in human research to shape the growth of a well-recognized and well-funded interdisciplinary team in preventative medicine and public health.

Required Qualifications

  • Must hold an MD, PhD, DrPH, combination and/or equivalent
  • Must be eligible for tenured faculty appointment at the full professor level in the Department of Medicine.
  • Must have experience in human research.

Experiences in thematic or programmatic research projects are preferred.

Conditions of Employment
