Position Summary

Position Summary: The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Memphis invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow position in transportation beginning as soon as July 1, 2021 in the broader area of demand-responsive technology-enhanced shared transportation systems, work zone safety, autonomous and connected vehicles, and autonomous last-mile delivery. Outstanding candidates with expertise in related areas will also be considered. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Sabya Mishra on projects related to transportation demand modeling, planning, and operations (both on passenger and freight). Salary is extremely competitive and includes full benefits. The appointment period will be for 12 months initially with possibility of extension to the second year based on performance.
Minimum Qualification and Experience: Candidates should have a Ph.D. (or have successfully defended their dissertation prior to the start date) with a background in transportation (not necessarily from Civil Engineering). A background in applied mathematics and/or operations research in passenger and/or freight transportation is preferred but not required. Candidates should have a publication record in transportation and/or related fields. Knowledge of travel demand modeling software (e.g., TransCAD, Cube, Visum) meso- and micro-scopic simulation (Vissim, Synchro), Geographic Information Systems software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) is required. Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., C, C++, Python, Matlab) is preferred but not required.
Primary Responsibilities: The successful candidate(s) will be expected to carry out research under minimal supervision, contribute to the formulation and submission of research proposals and publications (quarterly and final reports, peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings) and mentor graduate and undergraduate research assistants and students.
