Direct liaison to the academic division. Will work with the division dean to provide student assistance. Will remain educated and up to date on all division policies and procedures. This position will facilitate a line of communication from the division to the student success advising staff. This position will provide comprehensive student success advising services to students. The Student Success Advisor II will assist students in academic planning, choosing a major, resolving academic difficulties, addressing personal challenges, and providing information about the College’s available support services and resources

Minimum Education/Experience

Master’s Degree

Minimum of five years full-time work experience in academic advising, coaching, financial planning, or counseling.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to work flexible and evening hours.

Proven leadership skills as reflected by prior work experience.

Ability to work independently and achieve optimal results with minimal oversight.

Demonstrated positive human relations and communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to work well one-on-one with individuals.

Advanced computer literacy.

Ability to problem-solve by critical thinking.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sedentary work: The person in this position may occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to students, faculty, staff, administration, and others to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position requires the person to frequently move about the office and OCCC campus to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer and other office equipment to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of hands and wrists.

This position requires the person to occasionally position self to access materials that may be above head or at ground level.

This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position.

This position requires the person to perceive attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.

4. WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position will be located in the academic division office and perform the essential functions in an indoor office setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Coursework in Student Development Theory.
Experience in a leadership position.
Experience in an Academic Advising Office.
Experience in a Community College.
Experience in the field of Student Services.

Required Training

Work Hours

40 hours per week when office is open, some weekends and additional evenings required.

General hours of operation:
Monday – Thursday 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Extended hours as needed.
