Application Deadline Open until filled

USC Keck School of Medicine, Department of Pathology is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate for NIH-funded research projects on cellular and molecular mechanisms of protective or pathogenetic actions mediated by Gasdermin-D and extracellular vesicles in the pathogenesis of hepatitis, liver fibrosis, and liver cancer.  Genetic mouse models are used for liver disease models to define the causality and roles of cell-type specific Gasdermin-D in disease phenotypes.  Biochemical and molecular analyses of specimens derived from such models will be carried out to define the mechanisms underlying phenotypes observed in the models. Two-three years of experience in the following areas are preferred.

Job Accountabilities:

  • Perform basic biochemical and molecular techniques (e.g., immunoblotting, co-immuno- precipitation, qPCR, ELISA, genotyping, plasmid preparation and cell culture and transfection)
  • Isolate and characterize extracellular vesicles from mouse plasma or conditioned media established by culture liver cells isolated from mouse disease models
  • Learn and perform analysis for RNAseq and scRNAseq data
  • Perform mouse breeding and experimentations
  • Organize data in Excel files, apply statistical analyses, and generate graphs and tables
  • Summarize experimental design, results, conclusions, and future plans using Power Point
  • Present research update to the Principal Investigator and laboratory members
  • Submit abstracts to national meetings for presentations of newly obtained findings
  • Write a draft of a manuscript and/or a progress report on the project

Strong background in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, and animal experimentation (mouse) is required. Preferred Education: Ph.D. in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, physiology, or related fields Preferred Experience: Peer-reviewed publications in the same or related fields. Preferred Field of Expertise: Publications in peer-reviewed journals in the same or related field. Comments: A copy of the doctoral diploma or other certification that indicates that the terminal degree has been completed satisfactorily is required.
