POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, BACTERIOPHAGE ENGINEERING FOR CANCER DIAGNOSTICS AND THERAPEUTICS, Biological Engineering, to join the laboratory of Professor Angela Belcher and work on cutting-edge bacteriophage genetic engineering projects for cancer research, including therapeutics and nano-probes for early detection. Will design, produce, test, and scale up novel phage constructs identified from engineered phage libraries as part of an interdisciplinary, creative, and highly collaborative team of scientists and engineers using aspects of nanotechnology, drug delivery, biological engineering, materials science, and chemistry to create innovative solutions in cancer research, imaging, catalysis, and environmental bioremediation. Responsibilities include communicating results to the scientific community through publications and presentations, possibly mentoring undergraduate students and laboratory technicians, and performing related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED: a Ph.D. in biological engineering, biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, or related field; hands-on experience with advanced molecular biology and genetic engineering techniques, microbial cell culture, and design and production of randomized engineered phage libraries; relevant publication record; and excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills. Seek someone who is proactive and able to work as part of team as a lead researcher on multiple research projects, including in vivo small animal studies; design and execute research experiments independently and keep an accurate, detailed, and neat lab notebook; follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment; execute detailed technical protocols meticulously; and prioritize and perform multiple tasks in a dynamic work environment. PREFERRED: experience with small animal models, mammalian cell culture, materials characterization methods, and/or drug delivery; and computer programming and/or computer hardware engineering experience.
