Provide leadership and general administrative direction to the Student Health Center department heads. Coordinate all aspects of medical and psychiatric services to students.

Reports to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Coordinates and directs the efforts of all professional staff in the department, delivery and evaluation of medical, psychiatric, counseling, wellness, and educational services for students. Responsible for hiring, evaluation, and assignment of staff. Must assure compliance with all federal and state laws and regulatory guidelines concerning the delivery and accountability of medical services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Engages in systematic planning for the delivery of total health services for students.
  • Administers the recruitment, hiring, supervision, and evaluation of performance of all Student Health Services staff.
  • Administers the establishment of policies and protocols for the delivery of health services.
  • Administers the quality assurance program for all programs in the organization. Utilizes assessment data to determine student needs, examine emerging trends, identify gaps and benchmark best practices for the department and University.
  • Maintains relationship with student consumers including the Student Health Advisory Board, undergraduate and graduate student government leaders, and other students on a day to day basis.
  • Responds to concerns of students about programs or specific services.
  • Ensures medical, counseling and psychiatric services are in compliance with college health standards of care, applicable regulatory licensing requirements and the mission of the University.
  • Maintains relationship with university departments so as to assure smooth operation of programs.
  • Maintains relationships with community and county health care providers so as to assure continuity of care for students.
  • Serves as spokesperson for the Student Health Services when needed and serves on university-wide committees, etc.
  • Coordinates organizational public relations programs and relationship with media.
  • Has primary responsibility for securing resources necessary for operation of programs and maintain a system for control of those fiscal resources.
  • Serves as a collaborator with other Directors within the Division of Student Affairs, including University Housing, Dean of Students, Saluki Cares, Recreational Sports and Services, as well as Athletics and Academic units.
  • Serves as the public health prevention and response leader and forges strong relationships with the larger Carbondale community and region on public health initiatives.
  • Accepts other responsibilities as assigned by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree required
  • Minimum of 10 year's administrative experience in a student health care setting or a health care related field.
  • Experience working with a diverse multi-cultural student population.
  • Understanding of and appreciation for the intersection between clinical health services, counseling, and health/wellness promotion.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse, college age population.
Preferred Qualifications:

MD/PhD preferred
