The position allows the MPA intern to gain real world experience delivering municipal services to the City of Central. The intern will apply principles and lessons learned from the MPA program to real issues and daily tasks of the city. Each week, the intern will be exposed to various departments, such as public works, finance/administration, permitting, and planning & zoning. The intern will learn about public-private partnerships and the role of the non-profit sector in public governance. The intern will be under the direction of the Program Director or his designee.
Daily activities may consist of:
- Reviewing licenses for up-to-date information
- Drafting meeting minutes
- Reviewing the City’s budget
- Coding invoices in accordance budget line items
- File organization
- Reviewing permit department metrics
- Creating reports
- Interacting with citizens/answering telephone
- Placing public notice signs in the field
- Drafting public advertisements
- Reviewing sign permits for consistency with ordinances
Must be a graduate student enrolled in an MPA program.
