Job Description

The McDonald Center for Student Well-Being, within the Division of Student Affairs, is the health education, promotion and prevention department at the University of Notre Dame. The McDonald Center is charged with implementing population-based health and wellness initiatives for the student population toward a campus where all students can flourish. The McDonald Center is seeking an applicant who is passionate about student well-being and empowering student leaders. Working within a public health framework, the Assistant Director for Student Leadership and Community Engagement will work with a dynamic team of professionals and student leaders to equip students with health and well-being skills to to serve Notre Dame and beyond. This is a full-time, 12-month position and reports directly to the Director of the McDonald Center for Student Well-Being and will require some weekend and evening hours.

Student Leadership Development
  • Recruit and coordinate hiring for peer leaders, including 8 Senior Fellows and 15 to 25 GROW Peer Educators.
  • Train peer educators in Certified Peer Education.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise community engagement teams.
  • Organize, coordinate, and schedule student-led well-being initiatives, including Moreau First Year Experience tours and open houses.

Community Engagement
  • Organize and coordinate student-led well-being initiatives by engaging student clubs, student organizations, residence hall staff and residents on well-being programs and resources.
  • Assist in population-wide health promotion campaigns and interventions including the areas of stress, sleep, restoration, and student flourishing.
  • Design, implement, and assess topical presentations and workshops to the campus community.
  • Collaborate with staff and faculty on how to embed well-being into their work.
  • Incorporate diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice concepts and principles into all programs and services.

Population-Level Data Collection and Analysis
  • Facilitate regular quantitative assessment including promotion of WISHES and ACHA surveys.
  • Conduct regular qualitative assessment and analysis including focus groups and other student sessions.
  • Act as liaison for Notre Dame Institutional Research, Innovation and Strategy.
  • Report on relevant student well-being data to staff and faculty, particularly colleagues in Student Affairs.
  • Evaluate health education programming and campus-wide initiatives.

Other Opportunities
  • Represent McDonald Center for Student Well-being on campus committees as needed.
  • Participate in campus-wide instructor facilitation teams for programs such as GreeNDot, Mental Health First Aid, and Wellness and Resilience (Penn Resilience Program).
  • Attend and present at regional and national trainings and conferences as applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate Degree in Higher Education, Public Health, Social Work, or related field.
  • 3 years experience planning, implementing, and evaluating evidence- and theory-informed health promotion initiatives to meet college students’ development issues, health needs, and interests.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, social justice, and anti-racism. Ability to design health promotion initiatives that reflect the social, cultural, political, and economic diversity of students.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills for empowering, motivating, and developing students, colleagues, and other campus community members.
  • Ability to deliver presentations and educational experiences for a variety of audiences.
  • Commitment to building and sustaining effective collaboration with university and community partners.
  • Strong assessment, research, and analytical skills and a track record of implementing best practices.
  • Experience in training and supervising professional staff and students.
  • Detail-oriented with strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Competent with technology (MS Office and Google Suite) and ability to learn new systems.
  • Commitment to lifelong learning in this quickly evolving field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification/License such as Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or health/wellness coaching certification.
  • 5 or more years in higher education health education, prevention and/or health promotion, peer education.
  • Grant writing or grant management experience.
