Employment Type FullTime
Application Deadline Open until filled

Department Name/Job Location

This position is in the Department of Biology.  This position is for the Danforth Campus in the School of Arts & Sciences.

Essential Functions

The Gordon lab in the Department of Biology at Washington University in St Louis is seeking qualified applicants for a postdoctoral associate position that will foster research at the intersection of neurobiology and evolutionary ecology. The main overall project focuses on the role of sexual selection and sexual conflict on eco-evolutionary dynamics in Trinidadian guppies. The chosen postdoctoral candidate can then aspire to use various aspects from phenotype to genotype to then explore how selection on learning, memory, brain morphology and development affects eco-evolutionary processes.

The successful applicant will interact and work with a large team, and experience with collaborative teams, teaching, or mentoring will probably be useful in this regard.

There is funding for this position for up to one year, with the strong potential for renewal, but we strongly prefer applicants who are willing to seek alternative or additional funding sources.

Ph.D. degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong experience or training with R or some other statistical program.
  • Experience dissecting or handling small organisms or fish (in the lab and field) is a huge plus.
  • Strong background in evolutionary ecology, neurobiology, phylogenetics, population genetics, and comparative genomics are also assets.
  • Display a strong work ethic, enthusiasm/passion for research, and have demonstrated a strong publication record for their stage.

Salary Range

Base pay commensurate with experience.

Pre-Employment Screening

All external candidates receiving an offer for employment will be required to submit to pre-employment screening for this position.
