JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Biobehavioral Health in the College of Health and Human Development at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position to be housed in the new Rural Health Disparities Lab to begin in August of 2021. The postdoctoral fellow will work with Dr. Danielle Rhubart on interdisciplinary research projects related to health and aging across rural-urban and within rural contexts. Applicants should have a background and/or interest in health disparities, spatial disparities in health and aging, and/or the social determinants of health, including the built, policy and natural environment. Applicants with interest in rural health disparities are especially encouraged to apply. Approximately 20 percent of the postdoctoral researcher’s time can be spent on their own research.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of Dr. Rhubart, the postdoctoral fellow will assist with assembling project datasets, conducting quantitative analyses of secondary data, and coauthoring peer-reviewed publications. The fellow will also have the opportunity to develop new lines of research under the mentorship of Dr. Rhubart on research related to rural-urban or within rural health disparities.

Qualifications:

A doctorate in behavioral science, sociology, demography, public health, geography or a related field by August 2021 is required. Preference will be given to applicants with strong writing skills and with experience using spatial regression modeling and spatial software (e.g. ArcMAP and GeoDa). Experience working on or with interdisciplinary research teams is preferred.
