Associates degree or equivalent and customer service experience required, with Library employment experience strongly preferred.
The Library Assistant II is a support staff position and is a major provider of customer service, reference services, library services, computer assistance, and one-on-one instruction to library patrons. The Library Assistant II is knowledgeable of print, non-print, and digital resources and maintains library equipment; while providing a high level of customer service to students, faculty, staff, and community users. This position requires strong communication skills and the ability to work with numerous interruptions. This position works evening hours Monday-Thursday and some weekend hours as scheduled at the Moore County Campus.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1. LIBRARY DUTIES: Ensures that library services are available during scheduled library hours, including, but not limited to: using the Integrated Library System software to provide circulation services, such as checking in and checking out library materials plus shelving incoming items; maintaining the Reserve collection; processing interlibrary loans; and providing circulation support services, such as processing and weeding periodicals. Maintains library facilities, restocks items/supplies as needed, and ensures that the library has a neat and pleasant appearance and is safe for patrons and employees. Assists with library events and display preparation. Assists students, faculty, staff, and community users in properly using computers, software, printers, photocopiers, and other library equipment and services. Aids in cataloging duties as needed.
2. REFERENCE SERVICES: Assists and teaches students, faculty, staff, and community users how to access and acquire information using the online public access catalog, online databases, and print resources.
3. OTHER LIBRARY DUTIES: Records daily library statistics and gate counts. Assists in collecting and reporting library statistics data monthly. Produces Motlow IDs as needed for students, faculty, staff, and community users. Troubleshoots library equipment, scheduling maintenance and service requests, keeping inventory of supplies, and ordering supplies as needed. Uses professional etiquette when answering the library phone, greeting students, faculty, staff, and community users entering the library, and responding to voicemail or email messages. Works effectively with all areas of the library, including distance education services. Must be able to lift and carry boxes weighing forty pounds and pushcarts of books and equipment from building to building or room to room. May travel to other campus locations as assigned or needed.
