The Materials Science and Engineering Department at the University of Michigan is seeking applications for a Lecturer to teach a Physical Polymers course in materials science and engineering during the Winter 2025 semester.

Responsibilities*

Teach a graduate level course on structure and properties of polymers as related to their composition, annealing and mechanical treatments.  Topics include creep, stress relaxation, dynamic mechanical properties, viscoelasticity, transitions, fracture, impact response, dielectric properties, permeation, and morphology.

The lecturer has responsibility for teaching the courses as outlined and is expected to attend course meetings, hold office hours, and handle routine matters related to instruction. College of Engineering courses are held in-person on the Ann Arbor campus.

Ability to teach advanced level courses in Materials Science and Engineering.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization (LEO), AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Selection Process

The deadline for applications is November 10, 2024. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. It is anticipated that two Lecturers will be hired.

Applications will be selected based upon demonstrated subject matter expertise, successful performance in the classroom, ability to complete administrative tasks, and the needs of the department.
