Department Summary

The department has a mission to provide a high quality education to our diverse student population through excellence and innovation in teaching and research in order to serve the scientific and engineering needs of the state of Texas and the nation. This will be achieved by a balance of formal course work, practical laboratory training, and research projects that encompass both the basic science and the applied aspects of materials science and engineering. The department offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering programs.

Position Summary

This postdoctoral researcher position will involve detailed investigations on phase transformations, microstructural evolution, and mechanical behavior of advanced alloys including High Entropy/Complex Concentrated Alloys, Titanium base alloys, and other systems. The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for publishing peer-reviewed journal articles, proposal writing, and presenting the progress made to the program manager on an annual basis, as well as at international conferences and meetings. The postdoc is also expected to closely work with graduate and undergraduate students.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or closely related field.
Experience in thermodynamic and kinetic analysis of microstructural evolution in metallic alloys. Experience in advanced structural characterization techniques including scanning electron microscopy (including EBSD), synchrotron-based x-ray diffraction studies, analytical and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (including STEM-based techniques), atom probe tomography, and dual-beam focused ion beam microscopy.
