Job Summary

The Custodial Services Supervisor is responsible for assisting in managing the daily custodial operations within the institution to ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment. This
role involves supervising custodial staff, managing schedules, conducting inspections, and coordinating with various departments to meet the cleanliness standards of the organization.
 

Responsibilities*

Responsibilities include, but not limited to, the overall performance and function of the UM-D Midnight Custodial staff; the response to any emergency situations on campus; the reporting and follow up to the conclusion of any requests or issues brought forward; the reporting of any maintenance issues and assigned event preparation; and the inspection and validation of compliance of contract cleaning companies.

Supervisory Duties:
Supervise, train, and evaluate custodial staff; provide guidance and direction to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
Develop and manage work schedules to ensure adequate coverage; adjust shifts as necessary to meet operational needs.
Conduct training sessions on cleaning methods, safety protocols, and proper equipment usage.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback; address performance issues promptly and administer disciplinary actions if required.

Operational Duties:
Conduct regular inspections of facilities to ensure cleanliness standards are met; identify and address areas needing improvement.
Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment; order new supplies as needed and ensure proper usage and storage.
Address and resolve any custodial or maintenance issues promptly; respond to emergency cleaning requests.
Ensure staff compliance with organizational policies, safety regulations, and health guidelines.

Administrative Duties:
Maintain records of staff attendance, work schedules, inspections and custodial activities; prepare reports as required.
Assist in developing and managing the custodial budget; monitor expenses to ensure they align with budgetary constraints.
Liaise with other departments to coordinate cleaning schedules and address specific custodial needs; communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
 

Required Qualifications*

High school diploma or equivalent; coursework in facility management or a related field is preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of custodial experience, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in using custodial equipment and cleaning techniques.
 

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday from 9:30 p.m. - 6:00 a.m. 

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Additional Information

The role may involve standing, walking, lifting, and bending for extended periods,
exposure to cleaning chemicals and equipment.
