Department Summary

HBHS is one of two departments in the UNTHSC School of Public Health. The goal of the HBHS department is to help communities and health systems improve policy, management, and public health practice. Graduates of our MPH, MHA, MS and PhD programs assume positions in healthcare, business, human services, research, and academic settings. Our faculty are widely recognized for their innovative teaching and impactful research. Their work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control, National Science Foundation, and many other national, state and local agencies. Faculty are widely published in the areas of patient safety, disease control, health disparities and underserved populations, women’s and children’s health, participatory research, substance abuse prevention, and online/m-health interventions. HBHS faculty have received national and international awards for their work bridging teaching, research and practice.

Position Overview

The employee in this position will be expected to help evaluate brief alcohol interventions for adolescents and young adults and write papers for publication.
This position will be supported by an NIH-funded grant (R01 AA 019511, Project INTEGRATE), a large-scale data integration and synthesis project. The
project. Project INTEGRATE utilizes advanced computational approaches to integrate, harmonize, standardize, and combine individual participant data from
heterogeneous trials.


Minimum Qualifications

Appropriate doctoral degree. If the degree had not been conferred at the time applicant applied for a postdoc position, a letter needs to be attached from the school’s official Graduate Office and/or Registrar’s Office certifying that all requirements for the degree have been met and stating the degree conferral date.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Project organization/management skills
  • Advanced training in quantitative research methods
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
Preferred Qualifications

The candidate should (1) have a Ph.D. degree in the behavioral sciences, psychology, public health, or other relevant areas; (2) have a minimum of 1-year experience in developing behavioral
interventions and evaluating outcomes; (3) excellent writing skills; (4) adequate knowledge in quantitative research methods; and (5) peer-reviewed publications.
