Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept

The Portland State University Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is a nationally accredited healthcare facility that offers medical, counseling, dental, health promotion and education, and academic testing services to the students of PSU. The center consists of over 100 clinical and administrative staff, and there are currently 20,000 students eligible to use SHAC services.

Position Summary

This is a one-year position starting September 1, 2021.

The Postdoctoral Psychology Resident, under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, provides culturally-competent mental health services to PSU students including: brief individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, brief consultation/triage and emergency services. If the Resident has experience conducting psychological assessments for LD/ADHD, this could be an additional service provided. He/she/they also participate in psychoeducational outreach and consultation with faculty and staff. The Postdoctoral Psychology Resident works collaboratively on an interdisciplinary team of professionals committed to meeting the diverse mental health needs of a global student community. He/she/they is an active participant in staff and clinical team meetings, professional development and clinical in-service activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree in psychology (PsyD, PhD, EdD) by start date of Residency (this includes internship and completion of dissertation).

Ability, with supervision, to provide a range of clinical services including initial assessment, individual and group therapy, crisis intervention and clinical case management.

Preferred Qualifications

Skills, knowledge and experience relevant to the needs of students of color, students from indigenous communities, LGBTQ students, international students, veterans, students from diverse religious affiliations, undocumented students or first generation students

Bilingual or multilingual counseling skills

Completion of 3 comprehensive ADHD/LD batteries, as well as current skills and interest in assessment

Experience working in a university or college counseling center

Knowledge of laws and ethics that apply to psychologists and demonstrated adherence to those standards.

Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) with colleagues and clients

Effective time management skills especially as they pertain to completing record-keeping tasks in a timely, efficient, and effective manner.

Ability to work on an interdisciplinary team of health and mental health professionals

Work Days/Hours
M-F, 40 hours/week during regular office hours
Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement

The starting annual salary rate for this position will be $46,092 with an excellent benefits package including 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependant at any of the Oregon University System schools.

The Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is a healthcare facility and all employees are subject to the SHAC immunization requirement.
