The Department of Psychological Sciences at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley invites a full-time post-doctoral candidate in Psychology to begin January 1, 2021. We seek candidates with research interest and expertise in the areas of childhood adversities, family violence, intimate partner violence, and/or trauma with a focus on Hispanic population. Candidates will be expected to contribute to and develop research projects that coincide with the Department’s Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program. Opportunities for expanded duties/clinical work can be discussed. Applicants must have earned a Ph.D., preferably from an APA accredited clinical psychology program or a foreign equivalent by January 1, 2021. The successful candidate will contribute to the vision of creating a bilingual, bicultural institution on the Texas-Mexico border that serves as a gateway to the Americas.

Trainee position to pursue research as a vital component of their educational mission and professional career development. Works under minimal supervision with some latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment in research and/or teaching. Performs teaching and/or research work as required within the classroom and/or project assigned.

Description of Duties

The following is a listing of typical duties that may be applicable to the position:

Developing, testing, and analyzing research projects based on application expertise and interest; Aiding in the development of a survey instrument, testing the instrument and disseminating the instrument; Writing narrative summaries of the research results, and related tasks under the supervision of the faculty member assigned; Conducting background research; Developing and implementing an evaluation plan and preparing progress reports as needed; Studying, testing, and maintaining accurate data identified as relevant and/or best practice systems from research results obtained through national studies; Designing and implementing training activities as required; Teaching one course per year in conjunction with faculty member, if assigned; Publishing in peer-reviewed publications related to the focus of the research activities assigned; and performing other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Education

Doctorate in Psychology or closely related field from an APA accredited clinical psychology program or a foreign equivalent by January 1, 2021.

Preferred Education

Ph.D. in Psychology from an APA accredited institution.

Expertise in one or more of the following areas: childhood adversities, family violence, and/or trauma with a focus on Hispanic population. Bilingual/Biliteracy skills in English and Spanish. Demonstrated potential for strong research and publication record.

Equipment

Use of personal computer and proficiency in software and research statistical applications.

Working Conditions

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Standard office environment.
