Department of Biomedical Engineering, The University of Memphis

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at The University of Memphis invites applications for one post-doctoral research position in the area of electrospun chitosan membranes with capability of delivering local anesthetics and antimicrobials for burn wound treatment, to begin July 1, 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Primary Responsibilities: The successful candidate(s) will be expected to carry out research under minimal supervision, contribute to the formulation and submission of research proposals and publications (quarterly and final reports, peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings) and mentor graduate and research assistants and students. The period of appointment is 2 years.

Minimum Position Qualifications

Candidates should have a Ph.D. (or have successfully defended their dissertation prior to the start date) with a background in in biomedical engineering, biology, materials science and engineering, chemical engineering, polymer science or a closely related field and experience with biomedical applications of biomaterials and one or more of the following:

• Working knowledge of biopolymers and chemical modifications of chitosan polymers and or natural biopolymers for biomedical applications.
• Experience in polymer characterization methodologies (e.g. GPC/HPLC, NMR, DSC, XRD, XPS, SEM, mechanical testing, etc)
• Knowledge of in vitro cell culture techniques
• Experience in electrospinning, burn or wound healing, molecular biology techniques, local drug delivery technology, and histological/histomorphometric techniques
