The Department of Biology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (https://www.bio.umass.edu/biology/ ) invites applicants for a full-time (9-month academic year), non-tenure track lecturer for classroom instruction in introductory physiology.
Primary responsibilities will include classroom instruction in Introductory Physiology (Biol 288) that is one of the ‘core’ second year courses in the Biology Department, as well as teaching 1-2 other core courses in the undergraduate biology curriculum. This person will also perform service in support of the mission and goals of the Department and College.
- Work collaboratively and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equality, and inclusiveness.
- Work in partnership with colleagues within the CNS community and across the campus to support the Dean’s strategic priorities.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences.
A Ph.D. in Biology or a closely-related field is required. The successful candidate will have experience primarily within the discipline of Physiology, and will design and implement an introductory physiology course that is broadly appealing and covers introductory concepts in physiology using examples from biomedical, clinical, comparative, or environmental physiology. The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest in joining a team of instructors dedicated to excellence in teaching using modern evidence-based pedagogical approaches, with an emphasis on inclusiveness and accessibility to support the success of a diverse student body.
Postdoctoral experience is preferred.
This position is intended to start September 1, 2021. Salary will be commensurate with skills and experience.
This is an academic year, benefited position with an initial 2-year appointment that is renewable contingent upon performance. Lecturers at the University of Massachusetts are unionized with the potential for long-term careers with promotional advancement within the Lecturer ranks.
