Position Summary 

Reporting to the Dean, the Senior Director for Field Education serves as a member of the GSS Leadership team. The Senior Director provides subject expertise, administrative oversight, and supervision to the staff and operations within the Field Education Department and across GSS campuses and Online. 

The Senior Director participates in devloping the undergraduate and graduate Field Education curriculum and is responsible for establishing effective implementation of all program requirements, policies and procedures. This position requires periodic travel, weekend, and evening work. 
 
 
 
  
Essential Functions 

  • Provides Field Education subject expertise and administrative leadership. 
  • Oversees the management, supervision, and professional development of  Field staff, including annual performance appraisals.
  • Establishes best practices to ensure consistent application of Field  Education curriculum, policies, and procedures. 
  • Ensures adherence to the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accreditation, GSS & University, and NYSED requirements. 
  • Develops, ensures integrity, and maintains procedures, data, and  documents (including training, manuals & accreditation materials). 
  • Utilizes data to develop continual improvement of department operations, staff performance, and student educational experience.
  • Provides critical analysis and ethical judgment in the supervision and  resolution of complex student and agency issues. 
  • Develops policies/procedures for recruitment, training, and assessment of Field Education sites/agencies, Instructors, & Advisors. 
  • Collaborates with GSS and University administrators to ensure accurate  and timely resolution/documentation of the student Administrative Review  process. 
  • Collaborates in developing and implementing scholarship/stipend-based  Field partnerships & placements. 
  • Models and fosters respect for diversity, equality, and inclusion in all relationships, communications, and operations. 
  • Develops effective methods of communication with all stakeholders. 
  • Represents Field Education within GSS, Fordham University, local community, and regional/national professional organizations. 
  • Creates a collaborative working environment for students, Field staff, faculty, GSS/University administrators, alumni, agency, and other partners.

Management Responsibilities 

Supervises the work of other Fordham employees who are individual  contributors. Responsible for hiring, training and developing, managing 
performance and administering corrective action. Has significant input in compensation decisions. 
 

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience 

 

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work 
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Field Education, Social Work Education, and/or social work administration/leadership. 
     

 

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills 
 
Proficiency in applying Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards. 

  • Exceptional analytic, management, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ethical, sound judgment, detail-oriented, with excellent organizational and time management skills. 
  • Ability to adapt and help staff adapt to changing priorities in a complex environment. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills with a customer-service orientation. 
  • Clear, effective, and diplomatic written and oral communication skills. 
  • Ability to function independently and as part of a team. 
  • Technical proficiency with software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Google DegreeWorks, Banner, & Slate. 
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education. 
     

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Doctorate 
  • Experience in higher education and Field Education administration. 
     

Minimum Starting Salary: $148,000 
 
Maximum Starting Salary: $168,000 
 
Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
