Responsibilities*

To provide focused, quality care for a variety of adult medicine & surgical patients requiring acute nursing care for 8-48 hours.

Included among the patient populations serviced by these units are post-procedural patients and others who will require close observation, assessment and teaching.

To work as a nurse member of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team in a busy outpatient setting.

Assists with diagnostic/therapeutic procedures as necessary

Provide patient and family education such as specific to procedure, diagnosis and how to care for self at home.

ENC Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

To develop, implement, coordinate and evaluate SSSU new employee orientation program.

To identify SSSU ongoing staff educational needs and facilitate in-services as appropriate to the needs of the nursing team.

To design and implement staff development plans. These activities are done in collaboration with the SSSU?s Nursing Leadership Team.

To demonstrate the clinical nursing role through direct patient care, role modeling, and consultation to nursing and other members of the health care team.

To work collaborative with the multidisciplinary teams.

This UMPNC RN posting is posted under the Role-Specific Advancement Model (RSAM) as:
ENC- COMPETENT NE.
Actual RSAM LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
RSAM levels range from ENC-COMPETENT NE to ENC-EXPERT NE TO ENC-MASTERY NE

Required Qualifications*

 Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Michigan as a RN.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

       Three (3) or more years of current adult med/surg experience.

       Demonstrated ability to facilitate change, direct nursing practice, prioritize, problem solve, evaluate outcomes and delegate as evidenced by previous employment experience.

       Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills as evidenced by excellence in verbal and written communication skills among shifts, positive and professional attitude, and ability to provide                direct and effective feedback.

      Demonstrated excellent organizational, and leadership skills including working with a team.

      Demonstrated excellent clinical patient care skills and problem solving skills.

Desired Qualifications*

?        BSN preferred Certified Med/Surg (RN-BC/CMRN) 

Previous teaching experience.

High level of self-motivation and demonstrated ability to improve patient outcomes.

Excellent customer relation skills and a commitment to the principles of Family Centered Care.

Ability to function independently and as part of a team.

Applies current literature/research to problems in practice area.

Able to set goals in self-directed manner.

Documented ability to effectively mentor nurse colleagues.

Knowledge of principles of adult learners.

Documented demonstration of professional behavior and effective leadership.

Knowledge of UMHS policies, procedures, and practices is desired.

Demonstrated unit and committee involvement with evidence of accepting increasing responsibilities as evidenced by two (2) or more years in the Charge Nurse Role, two (2) or more years of teaching skills and /or two years preceptor experience.

Work Schedule

 

?       Hours/Week: 40 hours  (combination of 12 and 8 hour shifts)

?       Shift/Hours: Day shift , *hours are primarily day shift and must be flexible to meet needs of the unit, on all shifts, as determined by leadership, institution, and the unit needs.

 

o   Currently the SSSU is open Mon-Sat. the hours of operation may change as determined by leadership and the institution.

 

All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening
