In addition, the University received 829 separate awards — the largest number on record. With $223 million in total funding, these awards propelled the University past the $200 million mark for the fourth straight year. To support this immense growth, Notre Dame Research is recruiting talented research administration professionals to enhance the team that will steward our research enterprise into its next phase.

Notre Dame Research Administration and Compliance seeks an IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee) Program Coordinator. This position shares responsibility for the coordination of the operation of the IACUC program. Primary coordination responsibilities include representation and assistance with the implementation of the programs to researchers, IACUC committee members, veterinary care staff, environmental health and safety staff, and sponsors of research. Based on experience and knowledge of the program, the IACUC Program Coordinator disseminates information about and assists investigators in the preparation of IACUC applications.

We are searching for a research administration professional who has a deep curiosity and a strong desire to learn. Responsibilities and level of supervision required will be determined according to the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate (see level qualifications below).

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications for Level I Professional:
  • 1 to 2 years experience in a research environment required, previous IACUC experience strongly preferred.
  • Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Candidates must be able to work, communicate, and transfer information to a broad audience.
  • Candidates must have the ability to learn and use web-based applications for protocol submission and administration.
  • Candidates must have moderate to excellent skills in the Microsoft Office suite, or comparable software (e.g. Google Docs, Sheets, etc.).

Qualifications for Level II Professional:
  • All qualifications of Level I, but with at least 3 to 4 years in support of research administration, and at least 2 years experience working to directly support IACUC activities.
  • Candidates possess active CIP certification, or be eligible to sit for the CPIA certification examination.
  • Candidates must have knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of the IACUC review process and administration of the IACUC office.
  • Candidates must be capable of working within established policies and procedures to process and interpret IACUC issues, identify potential or actual problems, formulate possible solutions and take appropriate actions to resolve the issues/problems.
  • Ability to work with relative independence, communicate issues and progress effectively, and receive guidance on complex problems or issues required.
  • Candidates possess a proven track record in facilitating organizational efficiencies and delivering improved customer service in service of the research community.

Qualifications for Level III Professional:
  • All qualifications of Level II, but with 4 or more years working as IACUC administrative staff.
  • Candidates possess active CPIA certification.
  • Candidates possess the ability to peer-teach team members and other collaborators.
  • Candidates possess the ability to assist the Director with independent analysis of policies and procedures.
  • Candidates possess the ability to assist the Compliance Education and Quality Assurance Program Coordinator with outreach on IACUC concerns, development of training materials and modules, and with post-approval monitoring activities.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess or be capable of obtaining CPIA certification in biosafety research compliance within two years of employment. Must be able to complete AALAS Learning Library training on animal use in research. Must be able to pass University safety training.
