This position is in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Lipid Research. This position is for the Medical School Campus.



Essential Functions

POSITION SUMMARY:

A position of liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry postdoctoral position is available immediately at Washington University Metabolomics Facility. This position is supported by an up to five year NIH U01 grant (U01NS114156-01A1). The candidate will develop small molecular biomarkers for lysosomal storage disorders after receiving training in liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, and the successful candidate will have opportunity to access to state-of-the-art lab equipment at Washington University Metabolomics Facility. The goal is to use metabolomics approaches to discover potential biomarkers, to apply mass spectrometric technologies and chemical derivatization to identify their structures, and to develop validated liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry methods for biomarkers to support clinical studies.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct literature searches related to research project.
  • Design experiments following instructions and discussions with the principal investigator.
  • Perform experiments.
  • Analyze the data produced using statistical/ graphical software.
  • Troubleshoot problems relating to experiment and equipment.
  • Improve current methods.
  • Maintain laboratory notebook and data in orderly manner.
  • Maintain equipment, instruments and work space.


  • Required Qualifications

    • Ph.D. degree with chemistry background.
    • Ability to work independently.


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Able to organize and work on multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently.
    • Analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data and to communicate data in a clear, concise manner.
    • Personnel and project management experience.


    Salary Range

    Base pay commensurate with experience.
