Accountant II
Job Description
Join our dynamic team as an accountant II, where you'll be at the heart of financial operations! In this exciting role, you'll oversee expense reimbursements, ensuring compliance with union guidelines and meticulous auditing of invoices. You'll match these to purchase orders, manage approvals, and process payments through the Peoplesoft system. Your attention to detail will shine as you review work for accuracy, support both internal and external inquiries, and generate critical financial reports. Additionally, you'll drive weekly check and ACH runs, handle student refunds, and seamlessly enter invoices into the MMARS state system. Hours: 8:30am-5pm, M-F, Saturday & Sunday off
Break: 12pm-1pm
Salary: $53,790.02 annually / $ 1,037.88 weekly

- Processes each invoice, matching them with purchases and approvals. Process Expense reimbursements. Process Upward Bound bi-weekly student payments
- Acquires authorizations, reviews and researches all invoices assigned
- Utilizes OnBase to process all invoices for approval
- Researches paid invoices in response to vendor and university department inquiries
- Enter all banking information for vendors requesting ACH payments
- Reconcile all ACH payments rejected from the bank
- Federal Aid uncashed checks reconciliation and submission to Student Accounts for review and fund return to the Feds
- Yearly 1099 review and submission to Tab Services for distribution to our vendors for tax reporting
- Places phone calls as requested to university departments, employees and vendors to obtain and/or clarify financial services-related information
- Reconciles all work processed by verifying system reports in CFRS
- Protects the university by maintaining confidential material as detailed in our policies and procedures
- Composes and prepares spreadsheets, lists and other documentation as needed
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities approved by management
- Locates and withdraws information from physical and electronic files
- Performs other duties as required within the Accounting/Payroll department
Minimum Entrance Requirements:
- Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting or auditing, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
- An Associate degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.*
- A Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience.*
*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
License/Certifications Required:
None
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite
- Previous experience using PeopleSoft Finance or similar financial systems and OnBase
- Previous experience in a higher education or state agency accounting department
Working Conditions:
This is a hybrid position in Salem, MA which requires some on-site, in-person responsibilities.
Office activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and interaction with computer equipment; Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 20 pounds.
