Financial Operations Manager (Hybrid Schedule)

Primary Purpose:
Responsible for managing the day to day financial and credit operations of Customer Services. Defines vision and strategy to ensure compliance, increase financial performance, improve customer experience, maximize value realization, and reduce risk. Oversees employees and operations, tracks performance, directs analysis, and resolves issues. Ensures daily operations are performed efficiently in accordance with established laws, regulatory directives, operating agreements, policies/procedures, and are recorded appropriately in the accounting and customer information systems. Interacts with internal and external stakeholders to drive strategic initiatives and achieve department and company goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees strategy, and policy for day to day financial operations to ensure compliance, increase financial performance and improve customer experience, maximizing value realization and reducing risk for the department and company. Leads financial analysis, auditing, and reporting to provide accurate financial insights and ensure integrity in fiscal management. Provides subject matter expertise for related company strategic initiatives, regulatory proceedings, and legislative matters, while overseeing the financial health and ensuring adherence to financial regulations and standards.
- Oversees day to day financial operations related to receipt of over $5 billion of annual revenue for 2.4 million customer accounts and over $1 billion of annual transactions with energy service providers. Ensures activities are completed accurately, timely, in strict compliance with laws, regulations, operating agreements, and policies/procedures, and are recorded appropriately in the accounting and customer information systems.
- Leads a team of managers, supervisors, analysts, and/or specialists as well as external vendors and contracts. Manages internal controls over the revenue process and SOX-404 requirements. Provides oversight and feedback to ensure performance standards, key performance indicators, and goals are met.
- Leads cross-functional teams from Customer Services, Information Technology, Accounting & Finance, Regulatory, Legal, Risk & Compliance, and Corporate Treasury to identify and resolve system and business process issues, implement new requirements and technologies, and create efficiencies and automation.
- Prepares and delivers presentations to internal and external stakeholders including senior management, regulators, energy service providers, and customers. Oversees preparation of operational reports, financial information, regulatory filings, other ad hoc analysis, and external communications.
- Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Hybrid Schedule:
- Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow the employee to work onsite three days per week and remotely on the remaining workdays.
- Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's Degree Accounting, Finance, Economics, Information Technology, Business Administration or other related field.
- 8 years experience in finance, business administration or related field.
- 1 year experience directly managing employees including performance management, training and development.
- Thorough knowledge of the utility business including the operational requirements, financial models, regulatory process, and key issues facing the company and its customers.
- Proven financial, analytical, and risk assessment skills.
- Outstanding operational leadership skills and a track record of building strong teams, developing employees, and managing performance.
- Strategic thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills. Ability to take a broad perspective, considers customer perceptions, and evaluates long-term implications when making decisions, developing solutions, and setting strategies.
- Demonstrated understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, CPUC regulations, and internal control requirements, including SOX-404 compliance.
- Strong oral and written communication skills necessary for working with a wide range of internal and external audiences. Strong presentation skills for formal and informal presentations to Senior Management. Possess an ability to communicate complex technical and operational issues clearly and concisely.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to build relationships with external and internal parties, influence those with divergent opinions toward consensus, and drive change.
- Knowledge of customer information and accounting systems and ability to manage systems development, enhancement, and maintenance.
- Demonstrates a growth mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree MBA or other advanced degree.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- CPA, CMA, or other related professional certification.
