Essential Job Duties

Editing and Writing (70%)
– Serve as the coordinating editor for the Carnegie Community Engagement Re-Classification application
– Ensure the Re-Classification application is free of errors, consistent in tone, and a compelling read for Carnegie reviewers
– Submit a complete Re-Classification application before April 1, 2025
– Draft, edit, and disseminate news releases, briefings, reports, presentations, and other public written materials to communicate about the re-classification process
– Help edit and publish a monthly e-newsletter
– Submit relevant updates to the Provost’s monthly newsletter
– Use up-to-date best practices regarding accessible and inclusive language
– May contribute to other executive-level writing projects like award ceremony remarks for University leaders, committee reports, and other tasks as needed

Project Management (10%)
– Work collaboratively with staff across the University to help manage the Re-Classification project
– Schedule, create, and disseminate a scheduled stream of content related to the Re-Classification process including news posts, social media engagement, and email newsletters
– Respond promptly to emails from colleagues and external partners
– Manage tasks independently using team project management software
– Contribute to the day-to-day operations of the Outreach and Engagement digital presence

Digital Media (10%)
– Develop written and multimedia content (.gifs, graphic design/updates, creation of special events pages, form creation/changes, etc.)
– Use WordPress content management system
– Engage with scholars, academic societies, nonprofits, and others on social media

Knowledge Management (10%)
– Enter and maintain data in the Collaboratory engagement-tracking database
– Develop Collaboratory as a story development tool for O&E and University Communications
– Ensure that Carnegie stories are reflected in Collaboratory
– Ensure Collaboratory activities are integrated with oe.ncsu.edu
– Source stories for news posts, social media posts, and e-newsletter
– Drive Collaboratory feature enhancement with suggestions to the product team

Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree or four years of relevant experience

– Ability to help complete the Carnegie Community Engagement Re-Classification successfully and on time
– A portfolio that shows professional editing and writing skills
– Ability to work collaboratively and steward relationships with campus stakeholders
– Ability to be productive in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and firm deadlines
– High level of self-direction
– Ability to use Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets (or demonstrated ability to learn productivity software)

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

Experience working in a higher education setting
– Knowledge of community engagement or engagement scholarship
– Experience working with project management software
– Experience with marketing programmatic work
– Knowledge and experience with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat
