Essential Job Duties
The Department of Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science (TECS) at NC State University is seeking dynamic and talented candidates for a tenure track faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level with a preference given to candidates with a strong affinity to textiles- based research with topics ranging from fibers to end-products, either basic or applied (industry-oriented) research. The successful candidate is expected to teach polymer, fiber, and textiles
engineering courses in the Textile Engineering(TE) undergraduate and/or graduate programs, and fiber and polymer engineering and science courses in the Fiber and Polymer Science(FPS) graduate programs, as well as establish a robust research program with a focus on fibers or textile engineering.
A typical faculty load in TECS is 45% research, 45% teaching, and 10% service.
Teaching: The TECS Department seeks enthusiastic instructors who have strong passion for teaching in textiles, textile engineering and fiber and polymer science. The successful candidate is expected to be creative, dynamic and effective in engaging students in the classroom coupled with a student-centered learning approach. The primary teaching responsibilities would be on textile engineering, fiber and textile science courses in alignment with the TE and FPS courses.
Furthermore, the successful candidate is encouraged to develop new courses with a focus on sustainability, textiles and fibers related to the textile industry.
Research: The TECS Department seeks prolific scholars who can demonstrate strong potential for establishing and sustaining a robust and world renowned research program. The successful candidate will be expected to secure internal and extramural funding and to disseminate research findings in top tier peer-reviewed journals as well as conferences at the local, national, and international levels. Preferences will be given to candidates who have strong scholarly research records in fibers and textiles, recycling and/or sustainability related to the textile industry.
Service: Individuals must be proactive and enthusiastic about actively recruiting and retaining TECS undergraduate and graduate students, with a commitment to improving access to higher education for students. In addition, TECS expects active service on departmental, college, and university committees and involvement in professional societies and organizations.

Minimum Education and Experience
- At the time of hire, the successful candidate must have earned a doctoral degree from an accredited university in Fiber, Polymer and Science, Textile Technology, Textile Engineering, Textile Science, or a related field.
Other Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated potential for both teaching and research in textile engineering and polymer science or a related area.
- Enthusiasm for mentoring and advising students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Ability to communicate research findings in peer-reviewed journals and at technical conferences and/or other scholarly sources.
- The potential to secure extramural funding for research.
- Collaborative skills in research and for industry outreach.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with textile companies or within the textile complex.
- Research expertise in textile science and engineering.
- Successful teaching at undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
- Established publication record in peer reviewed journals.
- Undergraduate degree in the textile sciences, textile technology or textile engineering.
