Overview

NV5 Geospatial is actively recruiting a Metadata Specialist to work in a remotely distributed team. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience applying geospatial technologies and analytic methodologies to natural resource management. The analyst must have exceptional communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, and be able to work well in a remote team environment.

Work Environment:

    Location is flexible: NV5 Geospatial Regional Offices, OR office or work from home considered
  • Minimal travel required; less than 10% of time

Responsibilities
  • Collects, processes, and analyzes spatial data
  • Develops metadata in FGDC and ISO formats
  • Hands on experience with Safe Feature Manipulation Engine (FME), Informatica, or similar Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) tools
  • Development of spatial data structures, data loading business rules, and FME ETL models to load geospatial data from source systems
  • Oracle database development skills including SQL, SQLServer and PL/SQL
  • Uses coding (such as Python) to automate workflows
  • Knowledge of ESRI Applications (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcGIS Pro)
  • Database support that includes knowledge of Oracle database, ESRI SDE, and ESRI File geodatabase formats
  • Spatial data formats including ESRI ST_Geometry, File Geodatabase, and shapefile
  • Software development lifecycle and documentation
  • Excellent communication skills, time-management, decision-making, and basic task organizational skills
  • Troubleshooting data issues
  • Working with data stewards from government agencies and commercial entities to facilitate data needs and requirements, provides technical assistance to clients
  • Documenting data requirements and ensuring metadata compliance
  • Prepares models, diagrams and technical documentation for ETL processes, GIS applications, GIS databases, metadata and operating procedures
  • Provide support for monitoring daily ETL processes and resolving ETL issues as they arise
  • Follows quality control procedures to ensure a high degree of data consistency, integrity, and accuracy

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Degree Requirements: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major work in physical or natural science, geography, engineering, planning, computer science or a related field
  • Five years of experience using Esri ArcGIS and/or FME software to manage and analyze data and databases

  • Experience with FGDC and ISO metadata creation and maintenance

  • Experience with python or other GIS coding languages

  • Experience in technical writing

  • Data QA/QC experience

  • U.S. Citizenship required to comply with government contracts

Experience/Skills Preferred (in addition to requirements):

  • Bachelors or Master's Degree in Forestry, Geography, or Computer Science

  • Professional certification in Geographic Information Systems

  • 3 years or more applying GIS to natural resource management

  • Excellent communication, team-work and collaboration skills

  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies

  • Familiarity with web-based mapping applications like ArcGIS Online products

  • Experience maintaining versioned databases
