Job Description

The Communications Program Manager develops the communications strategy to advance the mission of two Institutes in the Keough School for Global Affairs: the Klau Institute for Civil and Human Rights and the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies.

The primary focus of this role is to develop a communications strategy unique to each Institute; to develop a full range of communications content, both digital and print, to implement the communications strategy; and to manage communications projects, performed within the Institute or by the Dean’s Office communications team. The Communication Program Manager will need to gain a deep understanding of both Institutes ’work and goals in order to execute their individual communication strategies. This role is for someone with excellent writing skills, who is inspired by the missions and visions of the Klau Institute and the Keough-Naughton Institute, and who is highly organized, and can reliably work both independently and within a team. This position has a dual reporting structure to each of the Institutes it supports.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Content Development
  • Implement the communications strategy by creating and editing a full range of communications content, both digital and print, including Institute websites, press releases, social media channels, newsletters, email and print marketing, and the year in review.
  • Utilize basic graphic design tools like Canva to produce digital and print communications.

Project Management
  • Manage communications and outreach on all key Institute initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Keough School communications team and utilize services provided by the Dean’s Office for the production of marketing materials, video projects, or other media projects; website maintenance; and the use of data and analytics to inform communication decisions.
  • Manage Institute brand and integration within the Keough School brand and identity.
  • Work closely with colleagues in the Keough School, in other institutes and centers within the Keough School, and with other campus communicators, to stay current on best practices in communications, branding and marketing.

Strategy
  • Develop the communications strategy for advancing the Klau Institute and the Keough-Naughton Institute’s mission, identity, and reputation among key internal and external audiences.
  • Work collaboratively with external partners to develop shared strategies for joint projects.
  • Identify audiences and stakeholders and determine the strategy for reaching each one.
  • Develop and oversee institute editorial calendars that will help define priorities throughout the year.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field)
3 to 4 years experience in the following areas:
  • Strong knowledge of communication practices and techniques (website, social media, writing, etc.)
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven success designing and executing marketing and communications strategies
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Possesses a sense of urgency; is self-motivated and detail-minded
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity or experience working with CRM software is an asset
