The Lab Assistant will operate and maintain equipment in the SimLife Center. The Lab Assistant will operate the high-fidelity manikins while students participate in simulated encounters.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Computer literacy to include knowledge of the Internet and Microsoft Office
- Proficient in the English language
- Willingness to participate in student learning
- Ability to lift or move equipment weighing up to 45 pounds
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework and experience working in a health sciences field
- Knowledge of audio-visual media and computer networking
Essential Functions
- Operate the high-fidelity manikins, laptop, and audio/visual equipment necessary to put participants through a simulated encounter in the Sim Life Center
- Clean, maintain, position, and moulage the equipment used in the SimLife Center
- Prepare the labs/rooms for simulated encounters
- Clean the lab/rooms after simulated encounters
- Moulage manikins according to needs in the simulated encounters
- Participate in simulated encounters playing “roles” in simulated encounters
- Organize and maintain the SimLife Center storeroom, equipment, and inventory
- Give High Fidelity Tours and simple tours of the SimLife Center
- Other duties as assigned by the administration or SimLife manager
Physical Demands
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
- The person in this position needs to move to other locations on campus occasionally
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
- Use of manual dexterity
- Frequently moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces
- The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
- The ability to observe details at a close range
- Frequently moves boxes or equipment weighing up to 45 pounds
- Ability to work with gloves, dress manikins, and move simulation medical equipment throughout the SimLife Center
- Fast-paced, high-stress, high-tech touch simulated health care facility where people will be affected by the reality of the experiences
