Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
Job Summary: Functioning somewhat independently, the Postdoctoral Associate will design, organize, and conduct highly specialized and advanced research on the topic of water resources management and hydrological modeling in the Department of Environmental Science and Technology (ENST). They will develop and design models using established scientific protocols and, in some cases, designing new protocols; summarize findings and publish results in peer reviewed journals; assume general responsibility for scientific operation of PIs research group; and provide supervision and guidance to students and researchers in PIs research group.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Postdoctoral Associate will report to Dr. Masoud Negahban-Azar (PI) and Dr. Adel Shirmohammadi (Co-PI). The postdoctoral associate will be a senior member of the research group, supporting projects through original research, collaboration with other team members and co-PIs, and mentoring of students. The Postdoctoral Associate will also contribute to developing additional proposal efforts, thereby strengthening UMD’s ability to attract external funding.
The Postdoctoral Associate’s principal research responsibilities will be:

The Postdoctoral Associate’s principal research responsibilities will be:
- Design and implement research protocols; develop models (e.g., hydrological models, agent-based models, etc.); adapt new procedures, or methods relative to research
procedures (20%). - Collect, prepare and analyze research data and scientific literature; keep a detailed notes recording research data; maintain computer database of research data; tabulate and display data for presentation in research conferences and for manuscript preparation; use graphics and statistical software to analyze and present data (20%).
- Prepare, write, and submit manuscripts to peer reviewed journals and present at research conferences in collaboration with the supervisor and other co-PIs (25%).
- Supervise junior personnel in the research group to coordinate research efforts for increased efficiency; participate in training of fellows and students as needed (15%).
- Contribute to the development of new grant proposals directed by the supervisor (20%).

- A strong hydrological modeling and data analysis background with evidence of mathematical skills related to water resources management and hydrology.

- Extensive experience in hydrological modeling, remote sensing, and ArcGIS.
- Experience in land data assimilation, statistical analysis, and big data management.
- Relevant experience in developing Decision Support Systems (DSS) in water resource management.
Additional Information:
