Senior Assistant, Lab - Science Lab

Job Description

Job Summary

Responsible for preparing reagents in appropriate quantities and concentrations as specified in a multidiscipline science labs for the college. Delivers each science experiment to the Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Physics and Geology classes at designated campuses. Ensuring faculty and students are able to perform experiments/assignments properly and safely.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Prepare reagents and solutions for experiments.

Label, package and deliver requested lab materials, supplies and/or experiments.

Receive, sort, stock, and assist to inventory lab materials, supplies, and equipment.

Maintain inventories of supplies, equipment, and lab materials in the labs. 

Recycle chemicals returned from labs, dispose properly of outdated materials, complete lab waste and appropriate disposal forms.

Monitor stocked chemicals for proper storage.

Assist supervisor with orientations, organize and maintain all labs.

Develop lab schedules and train new personnel as needed.

Assist instructors in the lab.

Keep lab free of food and drink.

Turn in quotes from approved vendors for purchase of needed chemicals/lab supplies.

May travel to various HCC locations as required.

Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Associate’s degree in Science required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 1 year in a laboratory setting preparing agents and solutions for experiments enquired      

Licensing & Certification

  • Valid Texas Driver License

Special Skills      

  • Chemistry and/or Physics Laboratory Equipment

Working Conditions

General office.  Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner.  Must access, input and retrieve information from technology devices; communicate with others to accomplish job requirements.  May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
