Position Summary:
Engages students in the teaching/learning process; works assigned schedule, represents the College in the community, and performs other related duties as required. Teaches assigned classes in accordance with the policies of Terra State Community College, and within the schedule of classes, following the course description, syllabus and/or outline as approved by the curriculum committee.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
  • Plans and teaches courses that fulfill the program's curriculum goals and objectives
  • Remains current with subject matter and instructional methodology.
  • Maintains posted office hours in accordance with departmental and College policies.
  • Employs appropriate assessment methods to measure student performance in achieving course goals and objectives.
  • Participates in monthly PTA Program meetings.
  • Communicates progress in the course to students in a timely manner.
  • Determines and submits students' grades in accordance with established College policies and procedures.
  • Supports the mission of the program, division, and College.
  • Provides guidance and expertise to other programs, adjuncts, or clinical faculty as needed.

 

Program Area Responsibilities:
  • Adjunct faculty will provide instruction to students in the PTA program's didactic and laboratory-based courses. Adjunct faculty will work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.

 

Education and/or Work Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in physical therapy or Associate's degree in physical therapist assistant from a CAPTE-accredited physical therapist (PT) or physical therapist assistant (PTA) program required; Master's degree or higher in physical therapy or Recognition of Advanced Proficiency in a relevant specialty for a PTA preferred.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a PT or PTA in the state of Ohio within one year required.
  • 2 years of experience in clinical practice or experience in teaching in a physical therapist assistant or physical therapist program is required.
  • Experience in a variety of areas of teaching required (academic, clinical, continuing education, in-service).
  • Experience with instructional technologies and learning management systems preferred.
  • 2 years of experience as a Clinical Instructor or Center Coordinator of Clinical Education is preferred.

 

Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diversity of students including students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Ability to teach in a variety of content areas related to the practice of physical therapy.
  • Ability to effectively communicate one-on-one, in small groups, and in classroom situations
  • Effective verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technologies (e.g., MS Word, Excel, e-mail, database) or proven ability to learn these skills.
  • Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
  • Ability to work a combination of days/evening/weekend schedules.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations (as applicable):
  • Licensed PT or PTA in the state of Ohio or eligible for licensure and obtained within one year from the date of employment.
