Duties and Responsibilities
Application Pool Notice
Laredo College continuously accepts applications for part-time (adjunct) instructors to create a pool of candidates for each session/semester. Applications will be reviewed and positions will be filled based on department needs. Applications received for this pool will remain active for one year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The instructor teaches and prepares student to successfully take the General Education Development exam. Adjunct Instructor positions are grant-funded temporary appointments, assigned on an as-needed basis.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
1. Prepares lesson plans and instructs individuals in a classroom setting.
2. Conducts needs assessment analysis for each participant.
3. Develop educational plans of action for each participant.
4. Monitor participants’ needs in order to remediate educational deficiencies.
5. Maintain the required participant progress documentation.
6. Attend all staff meetings and professional development workshops as required by Texas Workforce Commission.
7. Keep daily attendance records and progress reports.
8. Assess program students using the TABE test as dictated by the Texas Workforce Commission.
9. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis.
10. Maintain records portfolios and student progress reports.
11. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
12. Assist in the counseling and guidance with emphasis on maximum progress of participants.
13. Prepare and submit monthly reports on a timely basis.
14. Assist the program coordinator in such duties as deemed necessary in attaining the established program goals.
15. Coordinate program activities with other program staff to promote the most effective instructional program goals.
16. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Dean of Community Education, Provost/Vice President and/or PresidentQualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree with with 15 hours in Reading or related courses.
Preferred:
- Three (3) years of teaching experience.
- Current Teaching Credential.

- Personality Requirements:
- Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with the program staff and participants.
- Knowledgeable, mature, and concerned with the welfare and academic progress of participants.
- Be bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred.
- Must demonstrate enthusiasm and be a positive role model.
- Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in written form.
- Must be familiar with the Internet, word processing, spreadsheet and power point software.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work is performed in a standard office environment.
