Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center

TA postdoctoral position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Moriya Tsuji at the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center of Columbia University Irving Medical Center, a Research Center of National and International Excellence. The research is performed in an interdisciplinary setting with strong institutional and global collaborations.
As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Scientist, you will construct various plasmids that encode human molecules, such as HLAs and human cytokines, for the purpose of making a humanized mouse model that mimics a human immune system (HIS) [see references below]. After confirming the establishment of HIS in the mice by a flow cytometric analysis, you will then study the level and nature of protective immunity mounted in HIS mice against SARS-CoV-2 and HIV. Some of the work will be performed in a BSL2 and/or BSL3 environment.

Minimum Degree Required

PhD or MD/PhD degree in virology, immunology or a related field.

Minimum Qualifications

Advanced knowledge in virology and molecular biology techniques and considerable experience working in a biosafety level 2 lab is required.

Hands-on direct experience in virology, molecular biology, flow cytometric analyses and cell culture
• Solid understanding in fundamental virology and immunology.
• Demonstrated ability for independent as well as collaborative work
• Demonstrated skills in effective and clear communication

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in handling mice is preferred, but not essential.

Additional Information

As a Postdoctoral Research Scientist, this appointment will be covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the University and Columbia Postdoctoral Workers-UAW Local 4100.
