Assistant Professor of English Instruction and Writing Center Coordinator
Job Description
The English Department at Hope College seeks to hire a Coordinator of the Klooster Center for Excellence in Writing (1.0 FTE). Reporting to the Director of College Writing, this position leads the college writing center (located in Van Wylen Library) in supporting and responding to students’ writing needs and administers the day-to-day operations of the center. This person has the theoretical knowledge and professional experience to advise and contribute to campus conversations on writing, writing instruction, and faculty support. The Coordinator will also contribute to the teaching of the college’s introductory and professional writing courses with a 2:2 teaching load.
Responsibilities
- Manage staff of student tutors
- Recruit student tutors across disciplines at the college
- Process student tutor payroll
- Lead tutor training and development efforts
- Cultivate writing center profile on and off campus through outreach and social media
- Teach two courses each semester

Qualifications
Applicants must have at least a master’s degree in Rhetoric and Composition, Writing, English, or closely related field. PhD is preferred. Candidates should have some writing center experience and must demonstrate knowledge of current writing center theory and practice.
Physical Demands
This position requires remaining in a sitting or standing position for frequent periods of time; uses office machinery such as a computers, printers, copy machines; Occasionally involves moving items over 10 pounds; frequently will move between different offices/workspaces/buildings; and requires effective communication abilities.
