POSITION TITLE: Director, Corporate & Foundations Relations
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations will play a leadership role in the Office of Philanthropy and will report directly to the Vice President for Development. The Director is responsible for establishing and implementing a comprehensive corporate and foundation relationship program to increase philanthropic support for Scripps Research. This role involves collaborating with faculty, administrators, and development colleagues, and Scripps Research and Calibr-Skaggs grant teams, to plan and execute engagement and solicitation strategies that align corporate and foundation interests with the institute's priorities.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Program Management: Design, implement, and manage a comprehensive corporate and foundation relations program to secure funding that aligns with Scripps Research's priorities and initiatives.
- Engagement Initiatives: Initiate, promote, execute, and evaluate initiatives to proactively engage corporations and foundations, ensuring a proactive approach to expanding and enhancing philanthropic relationships.
- Portfolio Management: Manage a select portfolio of prospective and ongoing corporate and foundation relationships, collaborating with leadership to shape future fundraising strategies.
- Grant Strategy: In collaboration with the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), Calibr, and other internal partners, develop and execute a comprehensive grants strategy, leveraging expertise in grant writing and relationship building with foundations, corporations, and other funding entities, with grant requests generally starting at a minimum of $100,000.
- Grant Lifecycle Management: Provide input on stewardship and reporting to donors, coordinating with OSP and other internal partners on what information donors might need or have requested to understand the impact of their support at Scripps research.
- Internal Collaboration: Work closely with OSP, Finance, and other designated points of contact to ensure coordinated efforts in grant proposals and submissions.
- Faculty Support: Serve as a resource to faculty, administrators, and development staff, assisting with presentations, proposals, and creating opportunities for engagement with prospects.
- Prospect Management: Utilize prospect management tools to coordinate engagement activities with colleagues, supporting key objectives and strategies.
- Travel and Cultivation: Cultivate corporate and foundation relationships and solicit gifts by traveling throughout the United States to engage prospects.
- Reporting and Compliance: Provide relevant updates and communication to funders during grant periods to demonstrate program impact and ensure compliance with all requirements.
- Procedures and Systems: Implement and maintain streamlined procedures, systems, and strategies to maximize support for researchers and administration colleagues across Scripps Research.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a development environment, preferably in an academic, scientific, or healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of current theory and practice in corporate and foundation relations and engagement, as well as grant writing and management.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with faculty, top executives, and community leaders.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Ability to analyze and interpret marketing data, conduct research, gather data, and prepare accurate and timely reports.
- Database management skills.
- Expertise in producing complex proposals, strong attention to detail, and flexibility in managing confidential information with careful judgment and discretion
- This is an on-campus position requiring 4 days per week working onsite from our La Jolla campus, with flexibility to work 1 day per week remotely from home.
COMPENSATION:
The expected hiring range for this position is $115,000 annually to $138,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
