Summary of Position

The Cloud Operations Technical Lead reports to the Platform Services Group Manager within the Enterprise IT Infrastructure department. The technical lead provides guidance to the team designing, delivering, and supporting automated solutions for managing and deploying services within our hybrid-cloud environment. In collaboration with other technical leads, the role’s focus is establishing and maintaining the toolkit for managing an enterprise scale hybrid-cloud environment and supporting the seamless integration of our CI/CD and DevOps toolkits and processes. The technical lead works closely with multiple departments and teams to enable them to run application workloads, develop software delivery processes, and manage hosted assets while enabling these departments to consume cloud-native technologies, implement best practices for those technologies, and build efficient cloud operations.

The role is responsible for developing the roadmap, providing architecture support and technical leadership for an engineering team, encouraging the adoption and use of modern tools and processes such as CI/CD and AI, maintaining and promoting best practices, and most importantly ensuring customer success.

  • Demonstrated experience managing enterprise storage solutions including data backup and protection
  • Demonstrated experience managing Azure and/or AWS cloud platforms
  • Demonstrated experience managing VMware or other virtualization platforms
  • Demonstrated experience managing enterprise storage solutions
  • A commitment to providing stable and reliable services.
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn and understand new technologies.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leveraging AI to enhance IT processes and solutions
  • Experience with Terraform, Salt, Git, GitLab, SCCM, InTune, Kubernetes, Docker, Docker Swarm
  • Experience managing mixed server environments (Windows and Linux)
  • Experience managing Rubrik backup environments
  • Experience managing Unity and/or PowerMax storage environments
  • Experience managing VMWare VSan environments
  • Project management experience and experience writing and conducting RFPs, RFIs.
  • Experience with networking technologies
  • Knowledge of VMware automation tools such as vRealize, SaltStack
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash, et al.)

Duty/Responsibility

Technical Leadership:
  • Provide technical leadership to the Platform engineering team, ensuring efficient workflows and effective task assignment.
  • Shares responsibility for managing on-premises enterprise storage, virtualization services, and software-defined networking.
  • Assist the Platform Services Group Manager to provide coaching, mentorship, and input on performance evaluations.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, encouraging professional growth and skill development.
  • Collaborate with Platform Services Group Manager to define talent acquisition strategies, participate in candidate interviews, and assess technical skills.
  • Assist in planning team resource assignments and projects.
  • Assist in ensuring accountability for high-quality and timely delivery of services.
  • Provide guidance on fostering professional development and training opportunities for team members.

Duty/Responsibility

Infrastructure Design and Deployment:
  • Participate as a technical lead on the development and enhancement of the enterprise automation toolkit to streamline CI/CD and DevOps practices, for both on-premises, and public cloud operations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, engineers, and systems and service engineers to gather requirements for building scalable, secure, and cost-effective public and private cloud solutions.
  • Oversee the deployment, management, and configuration of infrastructure components, including compute instances, storage, networking, and security services.
  • Implement infrastructure-as-code tools and practices to enable cross-platform consistency, automation of repetitive operational and life cycle management tasks, and improving cross-platform service management efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices related to public and private cloud architecture and security.
  • Ensure compliance with USNH standards and best practices related to public and private cloud architecture and security.
  • Participate in the operational and technical aspects of enterprise private cloud compute and storage infrastructure.
  • Support storage, backup, and virtualization systems across geographically distributed data centers.
  • Participate in the implementation of private cloud infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability.

Duty/Responsibility

Planning, Development, and Innovation:
  • Participate in the generation, collection, and aggregation of data points (metrics) to measure platform service health, stability, and security.
  • Manage the tracking and reporting of KPIs and provide data on the current and future growth and financial demands of the platforms.
  • Define and manage services and best practices for collecting system, service, security, and notification messages.
  • Leverage the collected metrics to provide data to guide the decision-making processes of the management teams regarding where to spend time, money, and resources within our environments.
  • Research, recommend, and coordinate on-premises compute, storage, private cloud, and software defined networking and infrastructure needs.
  • Utilize automation and orchestration tools to optimize systems management and reduce total cost of ownership.
  • Collaborate with Cybersecurity to Develop and implement security standards and best practices for all cloud platforms.
  • Assist with validating adherence to all established standards and compliance requirements.
