Heritage on the Marina, one of San Francisco’s premier and longest-serving retirement communities, has retained Druthers Agency to conduct the search for its next CEO/Executive Director following the retirement of current leadership. The Heritage is a non-profit corporation owned and operated by the San Francisco Ladies’ Protection and Relief Society, established in 1853 to be an innovative, charitable model for serving the vulnerable members of the Bay Area community. Originally developed as a convalescent hospital nearly a century ago, The Heritage on the Marina has provided high-quality Senior Housing and Services at its current location for more than 60 years.
This beautiful CCRC campus serves approximately 120 residents in Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Skilled Nursing units. Located in the Marina district of San Francisco, The Heritage is set among yacht clubs, parks and a beautiful shoreline. Nearby Fort Mason Center offers a farmers’ market, art galleries and special events, and picturesque scenery. The campus is anchored by a spectacular and historic building designed by Julia Morgan (best known for her work on Hearst Castle) which was completed in 1925. After serving as a convalescent hospital for over three decades, Heritage on the Marina transitioned to a CCRC model and began offering Life Plan contracts in 1957.
Heritage on the Marina offers the warmth and comfort of a home-like atmosphere. With a full continuum of care, residents enjoy an engaged and simplified lifestyle. The staff is stable and dedicated to the residents, providing exceptional service and care at all levels. An engaged and supportive Board of Directors will serve as a tremendous resource to the incoming CEO in implementing their strategic vision while continuing the history of success at the community.
With an excellent reputation and a substantial financial endowment, Heritage on the Marina is well-positioned for continued success in the future. Under the guidance of the incoming CEO, the community will look to update and modernize the physical plant and living units, while maintaining the warm atmosphere and commitment to quality that has set The Heritage apart. This is a unique opportunity to lead a well-regarded community in daily operations while preparing the organization for sustained future success.
Successful candidates for this role will have a minimum of five (5) years of proven success in leading a Senior Living community, preferably within a non-profit setting. Additional experience in strategic planning, construction/development, or financial operations would be beneficial as well. Excellent communication skills and a high degree of Emotional Intelligence will be greatly valued. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required; a Master’s degree would be preferred. Ability to be licensed as Nursing Home Administrator and/or Assisted Living Administrator in the state of California is necessary. Strong salary, outstanding benefits, and a collaborative work environment will be provided to the selected candidate. Relocation support is available.
