The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Project Odyssey Training Manager supports WWP's Mental Health and Wellness programs by serving wounded service members dealing with invisible injuries (e.g., post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), military trauma, and operational stress) through Project Odyssey. This role involves leading a team to train program teammates in planning, managing, and executing all aspects of multi-day mental health workshops and virtual programs. These are delivered through a learning management system to provide support and resources to warriors and their families, enhancing their resiliency and psychological well-being.
Note: Project Odyssey is an up to 12-week program that encourages warriors to challenge themselves both physically and mentally while in a supportive environment.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the development, delivery, and evaluation of Project Odyssey training programs including online, instructor-led, and blended learning for professional and managerial staff.

  • Manage a team of training and support professionals to deliver high-quality service, training support, and subject matter expertise to Project Odyssey teammates, mental health and wellness teammates, and organizational stakeholders.

  • Manage learning initiatives focused on new teammate training, program-specific skills, knowledge, and competency building through individual and group training and development.

  • Assist with change management and program development initiatives.

  • Partner with senior leadership and other stakeholders to develop short- and long-term learning strategies that support program and organizational needs.

  • Manage the design and delivery of program applications training using multimedia and eLearning authoring tools.

  • Apply creative approaches and instructional methodologies to design, deliver, and evaluate learning content, including custom eLearning, video, and simulation.

  • Manage training and compliance content in the Learning Management System and ensure proper tracking and reporting of learning transcript completion.

  • Conduct analysis on training effectiveness, maintain metrics, and recommend program improvements.

  • Serve as a mentor to the team, developing their skills and abilities, and supporting them in providing multi-day and virtual mental health workshops focused on enhancing warriors' resiliency and psychological well-being.

  • Oversee initial and ongoing training for Project Odyssey Specialists, including program delivery, project management, internal procedures, electronic record-keeping, and WWP programs and culture.

  • Monitor the development, coordination, planning, and execution of programmatic events to maximize impact, as needed.

  • Monitor team performance, collaborating with the Metrics team to interpret reports, address performance challenges, and identify opportunities for success. Collect and analyze data to prepare statistical reports demonstrating the productivity, quality, and effectiveness of Project Odyssey.

  • Ensure the quality and effectiveness of Project Odyssey through information gathered from relevant sources, including teammate shadowing.

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to understand content and learning requirements for the development process, while staying current on relevant technologies and best practices to enhance efficiencies.

  • Establish effective working relationships and collaborate with all WWP programs, teammates, and local and regional partners, such as the Veterans Administration, Veteran Service Organizations, Mental Health Resources, and other partners supporting the WWP mission.

  • Prepare briefings and reports for leadership and participate in strategic planning activities, including developing and managing the department budget. Coordinate with Regional Directors on local and national initiatives.

  • Strong aptitude to quickly learn and adapt to various CRM and learning management systems.

  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills to technical and non-technical audiences of various levels, e.g., executives, managers, and individual contributors.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and effectively handle multiple projects and initiatives with tight deadlines.

  • High degree of competency with adult learning concepts, practices, and procedures.

  • Working knowledge of program development and management.

  • Proficiency in budget management.

  • Proven success in thriving within environments that require independent and creative problem-solving.

  • Ability to analyze data and discern trends.

  • High energy level. Self-starter; willing to take initiative.

EXPERIENCE

Requirements

  • Five years of experience designing and delivering experiential learning-based veteran healthcare-focused programs.

  • Five years of experience working with military or veterans' population in support of their development and readjustment.

  • Three years of experience designing and implementing broad scale instructor-led, technology-based, and blended learning programs and initiatives.

  • Three years of direct staff management or leadership experience.

Preferences

  • Five years of experience working with and providing support to wounded service members who are dealing with both visible and invisible injuries, e.g., brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, other forms of military trauma and combat stress.

  • Five years of hands-on experience delivering experiential programs to veterans and diverse populations.

  • Four years of experience working with brain injuries or mental health case management.

EDUCATION

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, mental health counseling, human services, social work, recreation therapy, rehabilitation counseling, or related mental health field. Equivalent combination of applicable education, training, certification, and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Preferences

  • Master's degree in psychology, mental health counseling, human services, social work, recreation therapy, rehabilitation counseling, or related mental health field.

  • Master's degree in a business-related field with a concentration in learning and development.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSURE

Requirements

  • Valid state-issued driver's license.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • General office environment; temperature controlled.

  • Participation in highly physical and demanding outdoor activities and events under varying weather conditions, e.g., high rope and low rope courses, water sports, hiking, climbing, horseback riding.

For Colorado Applicants: The estimated hiring range for this position is between $95,961 - $119,952 annual base salary,subject to a candidate's combination of experience, qualifications, and credentials. This position may also be eligible for an annual performance incentive.

For San Diego, California and Tacoma, WA Applicants: The estimated hiring range for this position is between $105,100 - $131,376 annual base salary,subject to a candidate's combination of experience, qualifications, and credentials. This position may also be eligible for an annual performance incentive.

For Washington, D.C. Applicants: The estimated hiring range for this position is between $109,670 - $137,088 annual base salary,subject to a candidate's combination of experience, qualifications, and credentials. This position may also be eligible for an annual performance incentive.

For New York, NY Applicants: The estimated hiring range for this position is between $114,240 - $142,800 annual base salary,subject to a candidate's combination of experience, qualifications, and credentials. This position may also be eligible for an annual performance incentive.
