Overview:

The Upward Bound Program, federally funded, is designed to help first generation/low income high school students attend and succeed in post-secondary education. Y.O.U., Inc./Seven Hills facilitates the program in partnership with Clark University and Worcester Public Schools. Our Saturday instructors teach ELA/Math for MCAS/SAT and prepare scholars for high stakes testing. They also build critical thinking and communication skills (verbal articulation/presentation and writing).

Responsibilities:

The Saturday ELA/Math Instructor has many responsibilities including but not limited to:
  • Develop curriculum and guide students
  • Attend pre-planning instructor meeting and orientation
  • Instructing classes at designated times and days
  • Evaluating scholar performance
  • Complete written evaluations on each scholar
  • Provide remedial instruction (1:1) on an as-needed basis
  • Accommodate diverse learning styles
  • Outreach to students
  • Attending staff meetings

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS or MA/MS and/or licensing.
  • Strengths in the specific subject area (English, Math, Science, and Foreign Language).
  • Demonstrated dynamic leadership and success as an academic “coach”.
  • Strong ability to differentiate instruction.
  • Proven success with implementing hands on and engaging lesson plans.
  • Awareness of higher education principles, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of factors affecting student access and success in higher education, including those affecting disadvantaged students, student from diverse backgrounds, and students with disabilities.
