Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This position is responsible for receiving emergency calls and processing dispatching services to other agencies in response to emergency calls associated to dispatch.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities- Monitors radio and maintains contact will all unit on assignments; monitors safety status and locations.
- Receives and processes 911 emergency and non-emergency calls; determines the nature and location of emergencies.
- Provides guidance to victims and families of victims in emergency situations.
- Operates the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to enter and retrieve information.
- Receives and processes vehicle registration requests, driving records, and warrant information.
- Enters, modifies, cancels and clears warrants.
- Monitors assigned building surveillance systems.
- Monitors gate operation to ensure authorized access.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:
Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
Minimum of one (1) year of work experience as Telecommunications Operator.
Telecommunicator Certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
Preferred:
3 or more years of work experience as a Telecommunications Operator.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of relevant federal and stat law and local ordinances
- Knowledge of county and department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of National Crime Information Center (NCIC) procedures and rules.
- Knowledge of Laredo & Webb County streets and roads.
- Knowledge of fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) dispatch procedures.
- Skill in multi-tasking.
- Skill in operating phones, radios, and computer programs effectively n stressful situations.
- Skill in planning, organizing, analyzing decision making, and problem solving.
- Skill in public and interpersonal relations.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in dealing professionally with people experiencing all levels of emotions.
- Skill in completing correspondence and administrative reports.
Additional Information
Supervision Exercised
Dispatcher will supervise Police Aides that monitor the reserve parking lots.
Supervision Received
Dispatcher will be supervised by the Lieutenant.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a standard office environment.
Work-inside a well-lighted and air-conditioned area most of the time.
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Immediate supervisor may assign other duties.
