Position Summary

Oceaneering International Inc. Oceaneering Technologies (OII-OTECH) supports the US Navy's submarine rescue mission through the Submarine Rescue Operations and Maintenance Contract (SROMC). Oceaneering partners with the Navy's Undersea Rescue Command (URC) to provide 24/7 world-wide submarine rescue capability to US, allied and other foreign navy requests to assist disabled submarines (DISSUB) or submersible intervention and rescue. OII-OTECH is seeking an Mechanical Technician who will execute mechanical/hydraulic maintenance and repair work on all submarine rescue assets and supporting equipment. The Mechanical Technician will perform scheduled and corrective maintenance, integration, testing, field installation, and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment and systems. Work primarily occurs at URC in San Diego and will require travel to various locations in the US, at sea and abroad.

Base pay rate for this position is $30.00 to $35.00

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL

* Provide sound and seasoned technical judgement that follows company policies and procedures in meeting SROMC obligations.
* Conduct mechanical maintenance and operation of all USN submarine rescue systems and support equipment (SRDRS, ROV, SILOS, LWMS). Maintain rescue teams and systems in the highest state of readiness in order to meet Fleet requirements.
* Works within and supports a safety culture that is in compliance with Oceaneering's Life Safety Rules and HSSE program.
* Working knowledge of applicable technical requirements from NAVSEA SS800-AG-MAN-010/P9290 (Systems Certification Procedures and Criteria Manual for Deep Submergence Systems), NAVSEA SS521-AA-MAN-010 (U.S. Navy Diving and Manned Hyperbaric System Safety Certification Manual), and American Bureau of Shipping rules.
* Be able to document maintenance and operational activities in accordance with applicable procedures to sustain certification of submarine rescue system equipment.
* Resolve technical, procedural, and schedule issues.
* Formulate methods and processes which will increase safety, efficiency and readiness.
* Hydraulic, air, oxygen system troubleshooting and repairs.
* Some light mechanical assembly associated with submarine rescue systems and supporting equipment, including ROV mechanical systems and diesel generators.
* Use TMDE, and calibrated tools.
* Travel and at-sea watchstanding will be required.

ADDITIONAL

* Forklift, material handling, weight handling, rigging and crane operations.
* Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Technical associate degree or tech trade school preferred.
* Minimum two years formal mechanical/hydraulic training or four years of progressively responsible, on-scene experience in mechanical assembly.
* Able to interpret complex schematics.
* Good communication skills and the ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment.
* Able to work with minimum supervision under a variety of conditions.
* A current valid U.S. passport is required.
* Must be able to obtain security clearance.
* Must be a U.S. citizen.

DESIRED

* Experience with Deep Submergence Systems - Scope of Certification (DSS-SOC) is considered a plus.
* Experience troubleshooting to the component level is preferred.
* Knowledge of shipboard and/or subsea systems (ROVs/AUVs) is preferred.

Additional Information

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is considered OFFICE and FIELD which is characterized as follows.

* Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions (50%).
* Requires working outdoors in a variety of environments including at sea embarked on vessels of opportunity (50%).
* Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people.

OCCASIONAL

* Lift 20-50 pounds.
* Work in confined spaces, kneel, jump, run, work while lying on stomach/back, crawl, and use repetitive movements of the arms and hands.
* Identify color differences.
* Wear PPE for skin protection.

FREQUENT

* Lift 10-25 pounds.
* Climb stairs/ladders, stand, balance, stoop, squat, reach, and lift/carry objects.
* Twist body, sit with back supported, head forward/flexed, head tilted/rotated, and work with arms extended overhead.
* Operate underway embarked on working vessels.

CONSTANT

* Lift up to 10 pounds.
* Wear PPE protection for body, vision, and hearing protection.
