Essential Job Duties

The Office of Human Resources for the Wilson College works on all HR matters as a centralized operation taking a proactive customer-centered service. We support the full employee life-cycle for faculty, staff, post docs, graduate stipends and hourly workers, including an abundance of student workers functioning in a variety of roles throughout the college that add value to their student experience.

Situated in the Dean’s Office we work routinely and seamlessly with the Finance and Research Offices within the college, specifically in terms of salary administration, position control, salary release, summer salary and other additional payments that may or may not include non-salary compensation. The HR Specialist will: reconcile all labor budget allocations on a monthly basis for all account types-regardless of appointment, process salary distributions and redistributions, aid in bi-annual position control strategy reviews, serve as initiator for additional compensation actions, and initiate and monitor non-salary compensation.

Management of efforts of payroll, hiring of minors in our youth recruitment campus, onboarding, leave and time management, salary administration through labor budget allocations, and international employment compliance.

Other Responsibilities

  • Responds to requests for information and analysis of data for compensation.
  • Manages the complex landscape of international students, employees and visitors ranging from all over the world. Many of these appointments involve multifaceted needs and permissions from various constituencies. Due to our large volume of international appointments there is a need for a dedicated professional that can work across multiple platforms to manage the compliance associated with these appointments.
  • Due to the deployment of a new electronic performance management system the college needs a dedicated professional that can manage the supervisor training, program compliance and data integrity management.




Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Documented direct experience (50% or more of work in the role of human resources) in human resources, either as a generalist or in a specialized area of human resources; or equivalent experience and education;
  • The successful candidate will have exceptional judgment and the ability to multitask and embrace change, as well as the ability to work strategically with HR colleagues;
  • This position involves work with highly confidential information and complete discretion;
  • Excellent attention to detail, decision-making, and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Human resources experience working as a generalist at the college/department level
  • Working knowledge of NC State policies and human resource procedures
  • Proficient working knowledge of the Wilson College of Textiles
